Product Description

The 3M 7000045164 is a ceramic abrasive fiber disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal, weld seams, and other hard surfaces. Part of the 987C series, this disc uses a resinoid bond to secure ceramic abrasive grains to a vulcanized fiber backing. The 80-grit medium grade cuts faster than aluminum oxide and resists heat buildup during extended use. At 9-1/8 inches in diameter with an arbor hole attachment, it mounts directly to right-angle grinders and disc grinders used in fabrication, maintenance, and structural steel work. Maximum operating speed is 6,600 RPM. Each package contains one disc.

This disc is suited for grinding, blending, and stock removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals in industrial, fabrication, and maintenance environments. The 987C series ceramic grain is self-sharpening, meaning the abrasive fractures during use to expose fresh cutting edges, extending disc life compared to conventional abrasives. Installation Notes

Installation and disc changes must be performed with the grinder unplugged or the power source locked out and tagged per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect the disc for cracks, tears, or damage before mounting — never use a damaged disc. Ensure the grinder's rated no-load speed does not exceed the disc's 6,600 RPM maximum. Use the correct backing pad size and type specified for fiber disc use; running a fiber disc without the proper backing pad can cause disc failure.
