The 3M 7000044889 is a coated abrasive belt designed for stock removal and metal finishing on stationary and portable belt grinders. It combines 3M Ceramic Abrasive Grain with aluminum oxide in a blend that cuts faster and lasts longer than conventional aluminum oxide belts. The 18-inch length and 1/2-inch width fit standard narrow-belt grinding machines common in fabrication shops and maintenance environments. A durable resin bond resists heat deterioration, extending belt life under sustained pressure. This belt is suited for use by metal fabricators, maintenance technicians, and production grinding operators who require consistent cut rate and extended belt intervals.
This belt is intended for ferrous and non-ferrous metal finishing applications, including stainless steel grinding, weld blending, and surface preparation. The heavyweight polyester cloth backing handles high-pressure contact and performs well on heat-sensitive metals. The belt can be run dry or with a liquid lubricant, giving operators flexibility depending on the material and finish requirement. A built-in grinding aid reduces heat buildup during stainless steel grinding, which helps prevent workpiece discoloration and grain glazing. Typical use settings include fabrication shops, tool rooms, and MRO environments.
Designed for use on stationary and portable belt grinders accepting 18-inch by 1/2-inch abrasive belts in metal stock removal and finishing applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified operator familiar with abrasive belt grinder operation. Before mounting, power down and lock out the grinder per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect the belt for cracks or damage before installation, and confirm the arrow or grain direction marking aligns with the direction of machine travel. Never exceed the maximum operating speed rated for the belt or the machine.
