The 3M 7000044851 is a diamond lapping film sheet designed for precision surface finishing on extremely hard materials. Precisely graded diamond abrasive particles are electrostatically coated onto a dimensionally stable polyester film backing, producing a consistent, repeatable cut and finish. At 15.0 micron grade, this sheet is suited for intermediate lapping and polishing stages where tight surface tolerances are required. The 9 inches x 11 inches format fits standard lapping fixtures and flat-plate setups. Technicians working with carbide tooling, ceramic components, optical fiber connectors, and hard metal surfaces rely on this film for controlled material removal without introducing deep subsurface damage.
This lapping film is used across precision machining, fiber optic termination, tool and die finishing, and industrial maintenance applications. It is appropriate for both bench-top manual lapping and machine-assisted flat-lapping operations. The 15.0 micron grade positions it within an intermediate finishing range, making it a common step between coarser stock removal films and finer sub-micron polishing films. It is sold in individual sheet units.
Designed for use as a flat lapping sheet on standard 9 inches x 11 inches lapping fixtures and backing plates used in precision finishing and fiber optic polishing applications.
Secure the film flat against a rigid lapping plate or backing surface before use, ensuring no air pockets or wrinkles that would affect finish consistency. Both wet and dry lapping techniques are applicable depending on the material and surface finish target. Inspect the film for loading or glazing and replace when cut rate diminishes noticeably. Handle with clean gloves to avoid contaminating the abrasive surface with oils or particulates.
