The 3M 7000044817 is an aluminum oxide lapping disc engineered for precision surface finishing and microfinishing applications. The disc features aluminum oxide mineral coated onto a 3 mil polyester film backing with a durable resin system and a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) base for quick, secure mounting. Available in seven grades ranging from 0.05 to 60.0 micron, the 7000044817 delivers consistent cut rate, finish quality, and service life across repeated use cycles. At 8 inches in diameter, it is suited to benchtop lapping machines, superfinishing equipment, and fiber optic connector polishing fixtures. Licensed tradespeople and precision finishing technicians are the primary installers and users of this disc.
This disc is designed for demanding precision finishing work including fiber optic connector end-face polishing and roll superfinishing operations. The tight particle distribution ensures a repeatable surface finish from disc to disc, making it appropriate for both production-line environments and controlled service-bay applications. The harder resin system compared to the 261X series provides improved durability under sustained pressure. It is available in disc, sheet, and roll formats, giving technicians flexibility across different machine configurations and finishing setups.
Designed for use on lapping machines, polishing fixtures, and superfinishing equipment that accept 8 inch diameter PSA-backed discs.
Mount the disc onto a clean, flat lapping plate by aligning the PSA backing and pressing firmly to eliminate air pockets. Ensure the mating surface is free of debris and residual adhesive from previous discs before installation. No tools are required for mounting, but the plate should be stationary and the machine powered down during disc changeover. Follow equipment manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when operating lapping or superfinishing machinery.
