The 3M 7000044748 is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) diamond lapping film disc engineered for precision surface finishing on extremely hard materials. Built on a dimensionally stable polyester film base, it features precisely graded diamond abrasive particles that deliver a consistent, repeatable finish pass after pass. At 3.0 micron, this disc is suited for fine finishing and polishing stages where tight surface tolerances are required. It measures 2 inches in diameter and is sold individually. Machinists, optical technicians, tool-and-die specialists, and finishing professionals working with ceramics, carbide, hardened steel, and similar materials rely on this product for controlled stock removal at the finishing stage.
This disc is designed for lapping and polishing applications on hard, demanding substrates including ceramics, carbide, glass, and hardened metals. The PSA backing allows direct attachment to a flat or rotary platen, making it a practical choice for both manual lapping setups and machine-driven finishing operations. It is part of the broader 3M 668X diamond lapping film line, which is available in grades ranging from 0.10 to 30.0 micron, giving technicians flexibility across rough lapping through final polish stages in a single product family.
Designed for use on flat or rotary lapping platens accepting 2-inch PSA-backed abrasive discs. Suitable for finishing extremely hard materials such as carbide, ceramics, hardened steel, and optical glass. Functions as a PSA-backed alternative to the 3M 661X diamond lapping film in the same micron grade.
Clean and dry the platen surface thoroughly before applying the PSA disc to ensure full adhesion and prevent slippage during use. Peel the liner and press the disc firmly onto the platen, working from the center outward to eliminate air pockets. Use appropriate personal protective equipment when working with diamond abrasives and hard material swarf. Spent discs should be disposed of according to facility and local regulations for abrasive waste.
