The 3M 7000042809 is a dark green polyester film tape with a silicone adhesive backing, sold in a 50.4-inch-wide by 72-yard roll at 3.2 mil total thickness. It is engineered for high-temperature masking environments where standard acrylic or rubber-adhesive tapes would fail or leave residue. The silicone adhesive system provides clean removal after thermal cycling, making it a reliable choice for powder coating lines, composite fabrication, and industrial finishing operations. HVAC sheet metal shops, powder coat applicators, and composites technicians are the primary users of this format.
This tape is suited for a wide range of industrial masking and process applications. The large 50.4-inch roll width makes it practical for wide-format masking on panels, enclosures, and fabricated assemblies going through powder coating ovens. It is also used as a flash breaker and bag sealing tape in vacuum bagging and composite layup work. Additional uses include splicing, tabbing, and roll closing of silicone-treated release liners and similar low-surface-energy materials where aggressive adhesives would not perform.
Designed for high-temperature masking, powder coating, flash breaker and bag sealing, and splicing applications involving silicone-treated liners or materials. Confirm surface compatibility and temperature range requirements before applying to finished substrates.
Application should be performed by trained industrial or composites personnel familiar with masking tape selection for thermal processes. Surface should be clean, dry, and free of oils or contaminants before tape is applied. When used in powder coating or oven environments, verify that the application temperature does not exceed the tape system rating. Remove tape promptly after thermal processing per process specifications to minimize adhesive transfer risk.
