The 3M 7000042790 is a double coated, closed-cell polyethylene foam tape sold under the 3M 4492 series in white. The tape is 1/32 inch thick and features adhesive on both sides, allowing it to bond two surfaces together without mechanical fasteners or liquid adhesives. Its conformable polyethylene foam carrier flexes to follow irregular or slightly curved surfaces, making it well suited for light-duty bonding and mounting tasks. HVAC technicians, electricians, and general trade professionals reach for this tape when a clean, low-profile bond is needed in tight assemblies or panel work.
This tape is designed for light-duty applications where a flexible, double-sided bond is required. Common uses include mounting nameplates, attaching gaskets, bonding trim pieces, and securing lightweight components to panels or enclosures. The closed-cell foam construction provides a minor degree of vibration dampening and gap filling on uneven surfaces. Each roll measures 3/4 inch wide by 72 yards long, providing substantial coverage per roll. It bonds to a variety of surfaces including metals, many plastics, and painted substrates under typical indoor conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style bonding solution for light-duty mounting and assembly applications across HVAC, electrical, and general trade use where a conformable double-sided foam tape is specified.
Clean and dry all mating surfaces before applying the tape to ensure proper adhesion. Remove the liner from one side, apply to the first surface, then remove the second liner before pressing firmly onto the mating surface. Apply firm, even pressure across the bond area to activate full adhesive contact. Avoid stretching the tape during application, as this can reduce long-term bond strength.
