The 3M 7000036206 is a low static polyimide film tape sold under the 3M Tape 5419 product line. It features a translucent gold polyimide film backing coated with a silicone-based adhesive and is engineered for extremely low electrostatic discharge (ESD) characteristics. The tape measures 0.75 inches wide by 36 yards long with a total thickness of 2.7 mil. It is designed for use in electronics manufacturing environments where static control during high-heat processes is critical. Electronics assembly technicians and PCB fabrication professionals are the primary installers and users of this tape.
This tape is used primarily to mask printed circuit boards during wave solder and solder dip processes, protecting areas of the board that must remain free of solder. It also serves as a release surface in the fabrication of parts cured at elevated temperatures. The silicone adhesive withstands the thermal demands of these processes without leaving residue or losing adhesion integrity. It is suited for both production-line electronics assembly and prototyping environments where ESD-safe materials are required.
Designed for use in printed circuit board masking during wave solder and solder dip processes, and as a release surface in elevated-temperature part fabrication applications.
Apply in a clean, ESD-controlled work environment. Ensure the PCB or substrate surface is free of dust, oils, and flux residue before tape application to achieve full adhesive contact. Remove the tape promptly after the solder or cure process while the part is still warm to prevent adhesive lock. Standard ESD-safe handling practices should be followed throughout the masking and de-masking process.
