The 3M 7000035835 is a UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) polyethylene film tape designed to reduce noise, dampen vibration, and resist abrasion in industrial and mechanical applications. The tape features a translucent 10.0 mil UHMW polyethylene backing coated with a rubber-based adhesive and supplied on a paper liner. At 11.7 mil total thickness, this is the thickest version in the 542X series, offering greater abrasion resistance than the thinner 5421. Each roll measures 2 inches wide by 18 yards long. The low coefficient of friction surface allows mating parts to slide against each other with minimal wear, making it a practical choice for wear pads, guide strips, and chute liners.
This tape is used in a wide range of industrial, OEM, and maintenance applications where surface protection and quiet operation are required. Typical uses include lining conveyor guides, protecting metal-to-metal contact surfaces, reducing squeaks in assemblies, and acting as a low-friction wear surface on equipment frames and slides. It is applied by maintenance technicians and assembly workers in manufacturing, material handling, and HVAC cabinet fabrication where abrasion and noise control are ongoing concerns.
Designed as a direct-application protective tape for metal, plastic, wood, and painted surfaces in industrial and OEM assembly environments. Serves as a thicker alternative to 3M UHMW Film Tape 5421 where greater abrasion resistance is needed.
Surface preparation is critical before application. Clean the substrate thoroughly and allow it to dry completely. Apply firm hand pressure or use a roller to ensure full adhesive contact and eliminate air bubbles. Avoid applying to surfaces below the minimum recommended application temperature listed by the manufacturer, as cold substrates reduce initial adhesion.
