The 3M 7000035833 is a vibration damping tape designed to reduce resonant vibration on metal panels, steel support members, and similar structural surfaces. It consists of a pressure-sensitive viscoelastic polymer bonded to an aluminum foil constraining layer, backed by a blue polyethylene easy-release liner. The tape measures 10 inches wide by 60 yards long at a total thickness of 7.5 mil. When applied to a vibrating surface, the viscoelastic layer absorbs vibrational energy and the aluminum constraining layer converts it to low-level heat, reducing noise and fatigue at resonant frequencies. This product is sold by the roll and is appropriate for HVAC, mechanical, and industrial fabrication applications.
This tape is used in applications where panels, ductwork, equipment housings, or structural steel members vibrate at their natural resonant frequency. Common install scenarios include HVAC sheet metal duct assemblies, equipment cabinets, automotive body panels, and industrial machinery enclosures. It is applied directly to the vibrating substrate without tools or heat. The pressure-sensitive adhesive bonds on contact, making field application straightforward for sheet metal workers, HVAC technicians, and industrial maintenance personnel.
Designed for use on metal panels and steel support members subject to resonant vibration, including HVAC ductwork, equipment housings, and structural fabrications where surface-applied vibration damping is required.
Installation is performed by sheet metal workers, HVAC technicians, or industrial maintenance personnel. Clean and dry the target surface before applying the tape to ensure full adhesive contact. Peel the blue polyethylene liner and press the tape firmly onto the substrate, working out air pockets. No mechanical fasteners or additional adhesives are required; the pressure-sensitive bond is sufficient for most flat or moderately curved surfaces.
