The 3M 7000031965 is a one-part, ready-to-use, re-enterable intumescent putty pad engineered to firestop metallic and non-metallic electrical boxes set in wall openings and through penetrations in fire-rated assemblies. Measuring 9.5 inches x 9.5 inches and dark red in color, this moldable pad provides up to 4 hours of fire protection. It weighs 0.67 pounds and is supplied as a single pad. Licensed electricians and firestop contractors install this product where penetrating electrical boxes must be sealed to maintain the fire-resistance rating of walls and floor-ceiling assemblies.
This pad is suited for residential and commercial construction and renovation work wherever electrical outlet or switch boxes penetrate fire-rated wall assemblies. It applies to both metallic and non-metallic box types. Beyond fire resistance, the pad functions as a draft seal and cold smoke barrier, providing an L-Rated system solution. Its airborne sound reduction characteristics also support assemblies that require an STC rating, making it a multi-function firestop solution for code-compliant construction.
Designed for use with metallic and non-metallic electrical boxes installed in wall openings and through penetrations within fire-rated assemblies in residential and commercial construction.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician or a qualified firestop contractor in accordance with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and applicable codes including NFPA 70 and the International Building Code. De-energize all circuits serving the electrical box before beginning work. The putty pad should be formed and applied per the tested and listed system design — do not compress or stretch beyond the tested configuration. Verify that the completed installation meets the required fire-resistance rating through inspection before closing the wall assembly.
