The 3M 7000031473 is a heavy-wall heat shrink cable sleeve rated for 1 kV applications, designed to protect electrical splices, connections, and terminations in demanding environments. Built from cross-linked polyolefin with a factory-applied internal adhesive and sealant, this sleeve delivers mechanical protection, environmental sealing, and strong resistance to splitting. It accepts wire gauges from 8 AWG through 1/0 AWG, with an expanded inner diameter of 0.80 inches and a recovered inner diameter of 0.20 inches. Each sleeve ships at 12 inches in length and can be cut to size on the job. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors install this sleeve using a heat gun during splice and termination work.
This cable sleeve is suited for medium-duty electrical installations where moisture ingress, vibration, and mechanical stress are concerns. Typical applications include butt splices, inline connections, and cable terminations in industrial, commercial, and residential wiring systems operating at or below 1 kV. The integrated sealant activates during shrink, forming a moisture-resistant barrier around the conductor assembly without requiring additional tape or compound. The fast-shrink formulation reduces installation time compared to standard single-wall tubing.
Designed as an OEM-style heavy-wall heat shrink sleeve for electrical splices and terminations on conductors ranging from 8 AWG to 1/0 AWG in systems rated up to 1 kV.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician following applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before beginning any splice or termination work. Apply heat evenly along the sleeve using a calibrated heat gun, working from the center outward to prevent air pockets and ensure full adhesive flow. Do not use an open flame to shrink the sleeve, as uneven heat can damage the polyolefin material and compromise the seal.
