The 3M 7000029136 is a UHMW polyethylene film tape designed for noise reduction, vibration damping, and surface protection in demanding industrial and trade applications. The tape features a translucent 10.0 mil UHMW polyethylene backing bonded with a rubber adhesive, supplied on a paper liner, and measures 4 inches wide by 18 yards long at a total thickness of 11.7 mil. The low coefficient of friction surface resists abrasion while allowing mating parts to slide or contact without generating noise. Licensed tradespeople and maintenance technicians apply this tape where mechanical wear, chatter, or surface-to-surface contact is a recurring service problem.
This tape is well suited for residential and commercial HVAC installations, equipment panels, ductwork, conveyor guides, slides, and any surface subject to repetitive contact or friction-induced noise. The thicker 11.7 mil construction makes it the highest-abrasion-resistance option in the 542X series, positioned above the 5421 and appropriate where extended service life under contact load is required. It is sold by the roll and commonly used in mechanical rooms, equipment enclosures, and manufacturing or service environments where surface protection is a maintenance priority.
Designed as a general-purpose UHMW protective film tape for use on metal, plastic, and painted surfaces subject to abrasion, sliding contact, or friction-related noise in industrial, HVAC, and mechanical service applications.
Surface should be clean, dry, and free of oils or loose particles before application. De-energize and lock out any equipment before applying tape to panels or moving assemblies. Standard utility knife or tape dispenser tools are appropriate for cutting to length. Apply firm, even pressure across the full tape surface to ensure full adhesive contact and minimize edge lifting.
