The 3M 7000028867 is a glass cloth tape with an aluminum foil facing, designed for heat-reflecting and high-temperature insulation applications in commercial and industrial settings. Part of the 3M Series 363 line, it measures 2 inches wide and 36 yards long with a 7.3 mil total thickness. The aluminum construction delivers a tensile strength of 135 pounds per inch, making it suitable for wrapping, sealing, and securing thermal insulation on ductwork, piping, and other surfaces exposed to elevated operating temperatures. HVAC technicians, sheet metal workers, and insulation contractors are the primary installers.
This tape is well suited for heat-reflecting applications on duct systems, mechanical insulation jacketing, and equipment wrap where operating temperatures can reach extremes. It is rated for continuous service from -65.2 degrees F to 600 degrees F, covering the full range of temperatures encountered in commercial HVAC duct systems, boiler room piping, and industrial process equipment. Its compliance with F.A.R. 25.853(a) also makes it appropriate for aerospace and aviation maintenance environments requiring flame-resistant materials.
Designed for use as a heat-reflecting and insulation jacketing tape on commercial HVAC ductwork, mechanical piping insulation, and industrial equipment requiring high-temperature resistance up to 600 degrees F.
Installation is typically performed by HVAC technicians, insulation contractors, or sheet metal workers. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of oils or loose debris before tape application to ensure full adhesive contact. When used on duct systems, follow applicable SMACNA standards and local mechanical codes for insulation and sealing requirements. Do not exceed the rated maximum operating temperature of 600 degrees F.
