The 3M 7000028192 is a coated fiber disc in the Cubitron II 982C series, engineered for aggressive grinding on carbon steel and similar ferrous metals. It uses 3M Precision-Shaped Grain, a triangular ceramic abrasive that maintains sharp cutting points throughout the disc life, delivering cut rates up to twice that of conventional fiber discs. The disc measures 4.5 inches in diameter and carries a 36 grit rating, placing it firmly in the coarse-cutting range for weld grinding, stock removal, and surface conditioning. A stiff fiber backing paired with a strong resin bond resists tearing under high-pressure grinding loads. Licensed tradespeople and fabricators performing heavy-duty angle grinder work are the primary users.
This disc is suited for medium and high-pressure grinding applications including weld grinding, beveling, and rapid stock removal on carbon steel. It performs in manual hand-held angle grinder setups as well as robotic and pressure-assisted automated grinding systems. The 36 grit designation makes it appropriate for initial passes and weld flush work where maximum material removal rate matters more than surface finish. Industrial fabrication shops, structural steel contractors, and maintenance welders are typical end users. The reduced grinding pressure requirement lowers operator fatigue during extended runs, making it practical for high-throughput production environments.
Designed for use on carbon steel in high-pressure grinding and weld-finishing applications with standard angle grinders accepting 4.5-inch fiber discs.
Fiber discs are mounted by a licensed trades professional or qualified fabricator using an angle grinder fitted with a compatible backing pad sized for 4.5-inch discs. Always power down and disconnect the grinder from its power source before changing discs. Inspect the backing pad for damage before mounting a new disc, and confirm the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc RPM rating before operation. Wear appropriate PPE including a face shield and hearing protection during grinding operations.
