The 3M 7000028161 is a microfinishing film roll designed for precision surface finishing applications in industrial and trade environments. This Type E film is constructed on a 5 mil polyester backing and loaded with 40 micron aluminum oxide (ASO) abrasive on a keyed core, delivering consistent cut and finish across a wide range of materials. It measures 4 inches wide by 150 feet long and mounts on a 3 inch keyed core. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and precision grinding professionals use this film where tight surface finish tolerances are required. It is well suited for lapping, honing, and fine-grinding operations on metal, ceramic, and composite surfaces.
This microfinishing film roll is used in production and maintenance environments where repeatable, controlled abrasive action is critical. Typical applications include finishing of bearing journals, hydraulic valve bores, camshafts, and similar precision cylindrical or flat components. The keyed core design ensures positive registration on compatible lapping film machines and fixtures, reducing slippage during operation. It is sold individually and is also available in case quantities of four rolls.
Designed for use with lapping film machines and fixtures that accept a 3 inch keyed core. Confirm core and keying compatibility with your specific equipment before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or surface finishing technician familiar with lapping film equipment. Power down and lock out the machine before loading or unloading the film roll. Ensure the keyed core seats fully and positively in the machine spindle before resuming operation. Do not force the roll onto a non-keyed or incompatible core, as this can damage the film or the machine fixture.
