The 3M 7000017128 is a UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) polyethylene film tape with an acrylic adhesive backing, supplied as a single roll measuring 23 inches wide by 36 yards long at a 4.5 mil film thickness. This tape combines a low coefficient of friction with strong abrasion resistance, making it well suited for reducing noise and vibration in mechanical assemblies, guide rails, chutes, and wear surfaces. The solvent-resistant acrylic adhesive ensures the bond holds in environments where contact with cleaning agents or processing chemicals is expected. Maintenance technicians, equipment fabricators, and industrial service professionals are the typical end users.
This tape is applied wherever a low-friction, protective surface layer is needed to reduce wear or dampen mechanical noise. Common applications include lining conveyor guides, protecting sliding surfaces on equipment, cushioning contact points in HVAC equipment, and reducing squeaks or rattle points in assemblies. The transparent film allows the underlying surface to remain visible after application. It is used across light manufacturing, equipment maintenance, and facilities service environments.
Designed as a general-purpose UHMW film tape suitable for metal, plastic, and painted surfaces in industrial, mechanical, and light HVAC service applications where a low-friction or abrasion-resistant surface layer is required.
Surface must be clean, dry, and free of oils or loose particles before application to achieve full adhesive contact. Apply firm pressure across the full tape surface using a roller or squeegee to eliminate air pockets and maximize adhesion. Trim to length with a sharp utility knife against a straightedge. No special tools or licensed trade certification is required, though follow any site-specific safety or lockout procedures when applying tape to powered equipment during service.
