The 3M 7000007286 is a self-fusing ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) splicing tape designed for high-voltage electrical insulation applications. It conforms tightly to irregular surfaces and fuses to itself without adhesive, creating a solid, void-free insulating mass. At 0.75 inches wide and 30 feet long per roll, it is well suited for insulating medium-voltage cable splices, terminations, and electrical repairs where a conformable, high-dielectric-strength barrier is required. Electricians and cable splicers working on underground or aerial distribution systems rely on this tape for its performance in demanding insulation tasks.
This tape is used in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations where cable splices or terminations need reliable insulation protection. It is particularly common in medium-voltage cable repair and new splice construction. The self-fusing nature eliminates the need for a separate outer jacket in many applications, simplifying the splice build-up process and reducing install time in the field.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use splicing tape for medium-voltage cable splice and termination applications in electrical distribution systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician following NEC requirements and local code. De-energize and lock out the circuit before beginning any splice or termination work. Apply tape with consistent tension and overlap to ensure full self-fusion and eliminate voids. Do not stretch beyond the tape manufacturer's recommended elongation during application, as over-stretching can reduce insulation integrity.
