The 3M 7000006225 is a self-fusing silicone rubber electrical tape designed for high-temperature applications where arc and track resistance are required. Composed of inorganic silicone rubber, this tape fuses to itself without adhesive, creating a seamless, moisture-resistant seal. It comes on a 1-inch-wide, 30-foot roll with an easy-tear, easy-strip liner that speeds up field work. Electricians and low-voltage technicians use it for insulating, splicing, and protecting wire connections in demanding environments where standard vinyl or rubber tapes fall short.
This tape is suited for use in residential and commercial electrical installations where high heat, moisture, or electrical stress is present. It functions as a base tape layer, allowing technicians to cleanly reenter connections without damaging the wrap. Typical applications include motor lead insulation, cable splices, bus bar wrapping, and protection of conductors in tight conduit runs or exposed outdoor locations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-use silicone electrical tape suitable for wire insulation, splicing, and connector protection in residential and commercial electrical systems.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians in accordance with NEC requirements for insulation and splicing. De-energize and lock out the circuit before applying tape to any conductor or splice. Stretch the tape slightly during application to activate the self-fusing bond — do not rely on overlap pressure alone. Avoid contact with oils or solvents on the conductor surface prior to wrapping, as contamination can interfere with the fusing process.
