The 3M 7000005984 is a medium-wall, heat-shrinkable cable sleeve from the MDT series, designed for use in demanding electrical and industrial cable management applications. Constructed from cross-linked polyolefin, this sleeve delivers reliable mechanical and environmental protection including strong resistance to abrasion, corrosion, and chemicals. It ships in 48-inch lengths and features a factory-applied thermoplastic adhesive sealant that softens during heating, bonds to the underlying surface, and fills small voids for a secure, sealed fit. The MDT series offers greater flexibility than heavy-wall HDT sleeves, making it a preferred choice when flexibility over the long term is required.
This cable sleeve is suited for residential and commercial electrical installations, industrial cable bundling and protection, and field splicing applications. The flame-retardant construction meets requirements for environments where fire resistance is a priority. At 48 inches per piece, each sleeve provides coverage for longer cable runs or multiple smaller terminations cut to length. Licensed electricians and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers. The sleeve is sold in a minimum quantity of 20 per case.
Designed as an OEM-style heat-shrinkable sleeve for medium-wall cable protection applications. Select the size equivalent to the expanded inside diameter required for the cable or bundle being protected.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician or qualified technician following applicable NEC requirements. De-energize all circuits completely before applying any heat shrink sleeve to cable conductors or splices. Use an appropriate heat gun or torch rated for heat shrink applications, applying heat evenly along the sleeve to activate the adhesive sealant and achieve a uniform shrink. Avoid overheating, which can degrade the polyolefin material or compromise the sealant bond.
