The 3M 7000005905 is a two-part, low-viscosity polyurethane electrical insulating and sealing compound designed for permanent splice protection. Sold as part of the Scotchcast Electrical Insulating Resin 2104 line, it cures to a hard, non-re-enterable encapsulant that locks out moisture and mechanical stress from completed splices. The compound is rated for continuous service at 90 degrees F with an overload rating of 130 degrees C, and is suitable for cable splices operating at 1000 volts or less. Gel time is 18 minutes at 23 degrees C. Electricians and cable splicers rely on this resin where a durable, permanent encapsulation is required.
This compound is formulated for a wide range of electrical applications requiring a hard, non-re-enterable resin. It is well-suited for residential and commercial electrical work where cable splices must be permanently sealed and insulated. Because one formulation covers virtually all hard-resin encapsulation needs, it can replace multiple encapsulant SKUs in a field inventory, reducing the number of products a technician must stock. It is sold in individual 23.8 oz kits, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as an OEM-style encapsulant for permanent electrical cable splice protection in systems operating at 1000 volts or less.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician following applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before preparing the splice. Mix both parts of the compound thoroughly per the mix ratio before pouring to ensure a complete cure. Avoid disturbing the encapsulant during the gel time window to prevent voids in the finished seal.
