The 3M 7000005800 is an insulation displacement connector (IDC) designed to electrically join a tap wire end to a through run wire without stripping either conductor. The connection is made in a single crimp operation and the housing insulates the joint automatically. Rated for 22 to 16 AWG conductors with a maximum insulation outer diameter of 0.120 inches, the 7000005800 features a flame-retardant body and an operating temperature rating of 221 degrees F (105 degrees C). Licensed electricians, automotive technicians, and low-voltage wiring professionals install these connectors where a quick, reliable branch connection is required on insulated wire.
This connector is suited for residential and commercial control circuit wiring, lighting fixture wiring, appliance wiring, signal and public address (PA) system wiring, and automotive, boat, or RV electrical harnesses. The red color coding identifies the 22 to 16 AWG wire range at a glance on the job. Connectors are sold in bags of 500, making them practical for both service calls and production wiring applications.
Designed for use with 22 to 16 AWG insulated copper conductors in control circuit, fixture, appliance, signal, PA system, and automotive or marine wiring applications. The suggested application tool is the E-9BM Crimping Tool.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians or qualified automotive wiring technicians. Power down or disconnect the circuit completely before making any tap connection. Use the recommended E-9BM Crimping Tool to ensure the insulation displacement contacts fully engage both the run and tap conductors. Follow applicable NEC guidelines and equipment manufacturer wiring diagrams when integrating these connectors into control or power circuits.
