The 3M 7000001966 is a dual lock reclosable fastener sold as a 1-inch-wide, 50-yard roll in black. The polypropylene mushroom-stem construction mates to itself, creating a secure mechanical closure without hooks or loops. A rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesive on the back bonds the tape to a surface without mechanical fasteners. With 400 stems per square inch and an engaged thickness of 0.23 inches, the fastener delivers a firm, repeatable closure rated for up to 1,000 open-and-close cycles. Licensed HVAC, electrical, and mechanical contractors use this fastener to secure panels, wire looms, enclosures, and service-access covers in place of screws or traditional hook-and-loop products.
This fastener is rated for indoor use and performs in temperatures up to 120 degrees F, making it suitable for conditioned-air equipment rooms, electrical enclosures, and interior mechanical spaces. It adheres to a wide range of substrates including acrylic, polycarbonate, ABS, and powder-coated painted metal surfaces. It also bonds to low-surface-energy materials such as polypropylene and polyethylene, which resist many standard adhesives. This versatility makes it a practical choice when mounting lightweight covers, labels, or access panels to both metal and plastic substrates commonly found in HVAC and electrical equipment.
Designed for indoor use on plastics including acrylic, polycarbonate, and ABS, as well as powder-coated painted surfaces and low-surface-energy materials such as polypropylene and polyethylene. Not intended for outdoor or high-temperature applications.
Clean and dry the mounting surface thoroughly before applying the adhesive backing, as contaminants will reduce bond strength. Peel the liner, press the fastener firmly to the substrate, and allow dwell time for the adhesive to reach full strength before applying load. Both mating pieces must be aligned so their stems interlock directly face-to-face. Power down or de-energize any equipment before installing fasteners on or near electrical enclosures, per applicable NEC guidelines.
