The 3M 7000001189 is a 5.0 mil adhesive transfer tape built on a 300 high-strength acrylic adhesive system and supplied on a 3.5 mil, 60 lb densified kraft paper liner. The tape measures 48 inches wide and 60 yards long per roll. It is designed for applications requiring aggressive initial adhesion and strong long-term bond strength across a wide range of substrate types. Installation is typically performed by fabricators, sign makers, industrial assemblers, and other trades that work with bonding dissimilar or difficult-to-adhere surfaces. UL approved and compliant with US government specification MIL-P-19834B, Amendment 1.
This tape is suited for general-purpose transfer tape applications where a thin, high-tack bond layer is needed. Common uses include splicing of films, foils, and fabrics, as well as laminating foams, photographs, fabrics, and metal or plastic nameplates. It performs well on both high surface energy (HSE) and low surface energy (LSE) materials, making it versatile across plastics, metals, and specialty substrates. It is the thicker counterpart to the 3M 927 tape and is appropriate for applications where additional adhesive thickness and build are required.
Designed for bonding a wide variety of similar and dissimilar materials including films, foils, fabrics, foams, metal nameplates, plastic nameplates, and photographs. Serves as a thicker alternative to the 3M 927 adhesive transfer tape.
Surface preparation is critical before application — substrates should be clean, dry, and free of oils or contaminants to achieve full bond strength. Apply firm, even pressure across the tape after placement to ensure full contact adhesion. No special tools beyond a roller or squeegee are typically required. For industrial or structural bonding applications, consult the substrate manufacturer and applicable workplace safety guidelines before use.
