The 3M 7000000311 is a 5-inch diameter diamond lapping film disc engineered for precision surface finishing and material removal on hard substrates. Built on the 662XW platform, it features a higher diamond concentration and a stronger resin bond compared to standard diamond lapping film, delivering increased cut rate and extended abrasive life. The result is a flat, consistent surface with minimal rounding. This disc is used by optical technicians, fiber optic installers, and precision machining professionals who require repeatable, controlled finishes across multiple lapping passes.
This disc is suited for applications requiring tight surface tolerances, including fiber optic connector end-face polishing, ceramic and glass lapping, and precision metalwork. It performs on flat-lapping fixtures and rotary lapping machines in both production and field service environments. The 662XW formulation is available in 0.50, 1.0, 1.50, 3.0, 6.0, and 9.0 micron grades to accommodate rough stock removal through final finish sequences.
Designed for use with standard 5-inch flat-lapping fixtures and rotary lapping machines commonly used in fiber optic termination and precision surface finishing applications.
Lapping film discs are installed by qualified technicians or precision finishing professionals. Ensure the lapping fixture or polishing machine is powered down and secured before mounting or removing the disc. Apply consistent, even pressure during use to maintain flat contact and avoid edge rounding. Follow the equipment manufacturer guidelines for disc mounting, backing plate selection, and sequence when progressing through micron grades.
