The 3M 7000000301 is a diamond lapping film supplied as a 4-inch-wide, 50-foot roll designed for precision surface finishing on extremely hard materials. Precisely graded 3.0-micron diamond particles are electrostatically coated onto a dimensionally stable polyester film substrate, delivering a consistent, repeatable finish across the entire roll length. This product is used in applications where tight surface-finish tolerances are required and conventional abrasive films cannot hold grade consistency. The 4-pound roll weight reflects a full 50-foot length suitable for production or bench use.
Diamond lapping film at the 3.0-micron grade is appropriate for intermediate-stage lapping and polishing of hard substrates including carbide, ceramic, hardened steel, optical glass, and fiber-optic ferrules. It is commonly used by precision machinists, optical technicians, and fiber-optic splice technicians working in both shop and field environments. The polyester backing allows the film to conform to flat lapping fixtures, rotary lapping plates, and hand-held backing pads without tearing under moderate pressure.
Designed as a precision lapping and polishing consumable for use on extremely hard materials including carbide, ceramics, hardened metals, optical components, and fiber-optic end faces. Suitable for use with standard flat lapping plates, backing films, and rotary or reciprocating lapping fixtures that accept 4-inch-wide film stock.
Secure the film to a flat lapping plate or backing pad before use to prevent slipping during the finishing pass. When lapping fiber-optic connectors or precision optical components, follow the equipment manufacturer's recommended load and speed parameters to avoid fracturing diamond particles into the substrate. Inspect the film surface periodically and replace when loading or glazing is visible, as worn film will not hold grade. Dispose of used lapping film per local regulations, as embedded diamond and swarf from hard substrates may classify as a regulated waste in some jurisdictions.
