The 3M 7000000276 is a PSA-backed lapping film sheet designed for precision surface finishing in demanding trade applications. The abrasive layer consists of aluminum oxide mineral bonded to a 3 mil polyester film substrate using a durable resin system. At 9.0 micron grade, this sheet is suited for intermediate-to-fine finishing passes where consistent stock removal and surface uniformity are required. The pressure-sensitive adhesive backing allows the sheet to mount securely to flat platens or backing plates without adhesive mess or repositioning slippage. Sheets measure 8.5 inches by 11 inches, a standard format compatible with most flat-lapping fixtures and finishing setups.
This lapping film is commonly used in fiber optic connector finishing, where controlled, repeatable surface geometry on ferrule end-faces is critical to low insertion loss. It is also applied in roll superfinishing operations and other precision lapping tasks where surface finish tolerances are tight. The 9.0 micron grade fits into a multi-step finishing sequence, typically preceded by coarser grades and followed by finer grades depending on the target surface finish specification. Technicians working in telecommunications, optical assembly, and precision manufacturing will find this sheet appropriate for bench-top and fixture-based lapping workflows.
Designed for use in fiber optic finishing and roll superfinishing applications. Compatible with flat platen lapping fixtures that accept PSA-backed sheet abrasives in standard 8.5 inch x 11 inch format.
This product is installed by technicians performing precision lapping and finishing operations. Ensure the platen or backing surface is clean and free of debris before applying the PSA sheet to prevent uneven contact or abrasive loading. Peel and apply the sheet firmly to the platen, working from one edge to avoid air pockets. Follow the finishing sequence specified by your process documentation, stepping through appropriate micron grades rather than skipping grades to achieve the target surface finish.
