The 3M 7000000261 is a diamond lapping film sheet designed for precision surface finishing on extremely hard materials. Precisely graded diamond abrasive particles are uniformly coated onto a polyester film backing, delivering a consistent and repeatable finish with each pass. At 3.0 micron grade, this sheet is suited for fine-finishing stages where tight surface tolerances are required. Each sheet measures 8.5 inches x 11 inches, making it easy to cut or fold for use with backing plates, hand lapping tools, or fixture-mounted setups. Machinists, optical technicians, and precision tool technicians rely on this film when working with ceramics, carbide, hardened steel, and similar hard substrates.
This lapping film is used in applications requiring controlled, fine-abrasive stock removal or polishing on hard surfaces. Typical scenarios include finishing fiber optic connectors, lapping valve seats and precision mating surfaces, polishing carbide tooling, and refining ceramic components. The 3.0 micron grade fits into a multi-stage lapping sequence, generally following coarser grits and preceding sub-micron finishing films. It is sold individually per sheet, making it appropriate for low-volume precision work or for supplementing existing lapping film inventories.
Designed as an OEM-style lapping consumable for use with standard flat lapping fixtures, hand lapping tools, and backing plates that accept sheet-format abrasive film.
No power-down or shutoff procedures are required for lapping film consumables. Secure the sheet firmly to a flat backing plate or lapping fixture before use to prevent slipping and uneven abrasion. Apply consistent, controlled pressure to avoid tearing the film, particularly at edges. Dispose of worn sheets promptly, as degraded abrasive particles reduce finish quality and can contaminate precision surfaces.
