The 3M 45206 is a plastic face plate designed to back fibre and surface conditioning sanding discs on angle grinders and disc sanders. It provides a rigid mounting surface that keeps abrasive discs flat and centered during grinding, blending, and surface prep operations. The 45206 accepts a standard 5/8-11 threaded spindle and is rated for a maximum of 9,500 RPM. The disc hardware diameter reaches up to 5 inches, and the plate is sized for use with discs that have a 7/8-inch center hole. Metalworkers, fabricators, and maintenance technicians typically install this hardware as part of an abrasive disc setup.
This face plate is intended for use with fibre discs and surface conditioning discs in light to heavy material removal, weld blending, and surface finishing applications. It is suited for both shop and field work where a 5/8-11 threaded grinder or disc sander is in use. The plastic construction keeps weight low without sacrificing the structural support needed to run abrasive discs safely at rated speed. Typical applications include metal fabrication, structural steel prep, and general industrial surface conditioning.
Designed for use with fibre discs and surface conditioning discs that have a 7/8-inch center hole and a maximum disc diameter of 5 inches, mounted on tools with a 5/8-11 threaded spindle.
Disconnect the grinder or disc sander from power before installing or removing the face plate. Thread the 45206 onto the 5/8-11 spindle by hand and snug with the appropriate spanner wrench per the tool manufacturer's instructions. Always confirm the disc's rated RPM meets or exceeds the tool's no-load speed before operation. Never exceed the 9,500 RPM maximum rating stamped on the face plate hardware.
