The 3M 35 orange is a color-coding electrical tape designed for phase identification, circuit marking, and insulation in low- and medium-voltage electrical work. The PVC backing is 7 mil thick and rated for continuous use from 0 to 105 degrees C, making it suitable for both indoor panels and conduit runs exposed to moderate heat. A resin/rubber adhesive provides firm, conformable bonding to wire bundles, terminal blocks, and conduit fittings. Rated at 600 volts with a dielectric strength of 1250 volts per mil, this tape meets the demands of commercial and residential electrical installations. Licensed electricians and journeymen are the primary installers.
This tape is used in residential and commercial electrical systems for color-coding conductors by phase, identifying circuits in panelboards, and re-marking wire that has been pulled through conduit. Orange is a standard color for phase identification in multi-phase systems and is also used as a warning or caution marker in control wiring layouts. The 66-foot roll length makes it practical for both bench work and field use without frequent roll changes.
Designed as a color-coding and insulating tape for use on conductors, wire bundles, conduit, and electrical components rated up to 600 volts in residential and commercial electrical systems.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians. De-energize all circuits at the breaker or disconnect before applying tape to conductors or terminals. Apply with firm, even tension to ensure full adhesive contact and avoid air pockets that could reduce insulation performance. Follow NEC requirements for conductor identification and color coding when using this tape for phase marking.
