The 3M 35 gray is a vinyl electrical color coding tape designed for phase identification, circuit tracing, and color coding of wiring in electrical systems. It features a 7 mil thick PVC backing with a resin/rubber adhesive that conforms well to irregular surfaces and holds securely across a wide service temperature range. Rated at 600 volts and with a dielectric strength of 1250 V/mil, it delivers reliable electrical insulation alongside its primary color coding function. The gray color meets common phase identification needs in commercial and industrial wiring applications. Electricians and electrical contractors are the typical installers.
This tape is suited for residential, commercial, and light industrial electrical work where conductors, conduit, or junction points need to be identified by phase or circuit. At 3/4 inch wide and 66 feet per roll, each roll covers standard wire-marking tasks without frequent roll changes. The PVC backing resists moisture, abrasion, and many common chemicals encountered in panel and conduit work. It performs from 0 degrees C up to 105 degrees C, making it appropriate for use in both indoor panels and conduit runs exposed to moderate heat.
Designed as a standard electrical color coding tape for use on copper and aluminum conductors, conduit, cable jackets, and electrical panels in residential and commercial installations.
De-energize circuits and follow applicable NFPA 70 (NEC) lockout/tagout procedures before applying tape to conductors or panels. Apply the tape under slight tension for a conforming, void-free wrap, especially on irregular or bundled surfaces. Avoid stretching the tape beyond its natural limit during application, as over-stretching can reduce adhesion and long-term holding strength. Electrical tape installation is typically performed by licensed electricians.
