The 3M 322F3 is an aluminum foil tape engineered for sealing, patching, and joining foil-faced insulation and sheet metal duct systems in HVAC applications. Built on the 3M Venture Tape 3520CW platform, it combines a dead-soft aluminum foil backing with a cold-weather acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive. The tape measures 72 mm wide by 45.7 m long per roll and carries a nominal 3.7 mil total thickness. Service temperature range spans -40 degrees F to 250 degrees F, making it suitable for both winter installation conditions and sustained high-heat duct environments. HVAC technicians and sheet metal installers are the primary trades that specify this product.
This tape is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC ductwork where foil-faced insulation, flexible duct jackets, or sheet metal surfaces require a durable, vapor-retarding seal. Cold-weather acrylic adhesive chemistry allows the tape to bond reliably during low-temperature jobsite conditions without pre-warming the substrate in many applications. It is commonly used during new duct installation, duct repair, and insulation patching tasks where a clean, conformable foil seal is required.
Designed for use on foil-faced insulation, flexible duct outer jackets, and sheet metal duct surfaces in HVAC sealing and patching applications. Verify approved substrate compatibility against current 3M technical documentation before use.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician or qualified sheet metal worker in accordance with applicable mechanical codes. De-energize the air handling system and allow ductwork to reach ambient temperature before applying tape to ensure proper adhesive contact. Clean and dry the substrate surface before application — dust, oil, or moisture will reduce adhesion. Apply firm, even pressure across the full tape width using a seam roller or gloved hand to achieve full contact bond.
