The 3M 23 is a self-fusing rubber splicing tape designed for insulating and protecting electrical splices, terminations, and connections. It bonds to itself without adhesive, creating a void-free, moisture-resistant seal when stretched and wrapped. Measuring 2 inches wide by 30 feet long, a single roll provides enough material for multiple splice applications on medium-voltage cable systems. Licensed electricians and utility technicians working on cable splices and terminations are the primary installers of this tape.
This tape is used in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical applications where a high-dielectric, self-amalgamating insulation layer is required. It is commonly applied over cable splices, connector insulation, and wire terminations where moisture ingress and mechanical protection are critical. The black color provides UV resistance for exposed outdoor installations. Each carton contains 1 roll; cases are packed with 16 rolls.
Designed as an OEM-style electrical insulation tape for use on medium-voltage cable splices, wire terminations, and connector insulation in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians following applicable NEC requirements for cable splicing and termination. De-energize and lockout the circuit before beginning any splice or termination work. Apply the tape with a consistent stretch and half-lapped wrap to ensure full fusion and a void-free insulation layer. Do not apply to energized conductors.
