The 3M 1599B-BLACK_72X109.7 is a black flexible duct closure tape designed for sealing and securing flexible air duct systems. It features a biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film backing with an acrylic adhesive, measuring 72 millimeters wide by 109.7 meters long at a 3 mil thickness. The BOPP backing resists UV exposure and conforms to curved and irregular surfaces, making it well suited for the irregular geometry common in flex duct installations. The acrylic adhesive is formulated to perform in cold weather and maintains adhesion across a wide temperature range from -40 to 185 degrees F. Licensed HVAC technicians and sheet metal installers are the primary installers of this tape in both residential and light commercial duct systems.
This tape is rated for sealing flexible air duct, air connectors, and securing flex duct to duct wrap facing. It also handles metal-to-metal connections and rubberized foam pipe insulation applications. Its flexible backing makes it practical for wrapping around fittings, collars, and transitions where rigid foil tape would crack or lift. It meets UL 181B-FX and ISO 9001 standards, making it an approved closure tape for listed flexible air duct and air connector systems where code-compliant sealing is required.
Approved for use on listed flexible air duct systems, air connectors, and duct wrap facing connections per UL 181B-FX. Also suitable for metal-to-metal duct connections and rubberized foam pipe insulation sealing.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with the duct system manufacturer instructions and applicable mechanical codes. Power down the air handling system before accessing duct connections. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust or oils before tape application to ensure full adhesive contact. Do not use this tape as a substitute for mastic or other approved sealants where local code requires them.
