The 3M 1599B-BLACK_48X109.7 is a black, biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film duct tape engineered for flexible duct closure and sealing applications in HVAC systems. At 3 mil thick, the BOPP film backing provides UV resistance and conforms to curved and irregular duct surfaces without lifting or buckling. The acrylic adhesive is specifically formulated for cold-weather performance, maintaining bond strength across a temperature range of -40 to 185 degrees F. This tape is listed to UL 181B-FX, making it a code-compliant choice for flexible air duct installations. HVAC technicians and sheet metal contractors use it for duct sealing tasks that demand flexibility and long-term adhesive stability.
This tape is suited for both residential and light commercial HVAC ductwork. Typical applications include sealing flexible air duct connections, securing flex duct to duct wrap facing, metal-to-metal duct connections, and bonding rubberized foam pipe insulation. The flexible BOPP backing conforms well to the corrugated and irregular surfaces common in flex duct assemblies, making it a practical field tape for rough-in and service work alike. Its UV-resistant backing also supports installations in attic spaces or other environments with incidental light exposure.
Designed for sealing flexible air duct, air connectors, flex duct to duct wrap facing, metal-to-metal duct connections, and rubberized foam pipe insulation, per UL 181B-FX listing requirements.
HVAC technicians and sheet metal workers should ensure all mating surfaces are clean, dry, and free of dust or oil before applying tape. Apply firm hand pressure across the full tape width to ensure full contact with the substrate. For UL 181B-FX listed installations, follow the duct system manufacturer's instructions and applicable mechanical codes. Do not apply to surfaces outside the rated temperature range of -40 to 185 degrees F.
