The 3M 051128-54455 is a flame-retardant twist-on wire connector designed to electrically join two or more conductor ends in a pigtail configuration and insulate the completed connection. Built with a live-action square wire steel spring, it maintains consistent contact pressure on the conductors after installation. The winged shell gives technicians a secure grip during makeup, reducing hand fatigue on high-volume jobs. Rated for 600 VAC and up to 221 degrees F, this connector meets UL 486C and CSA C22.2 No. 188 standards. The tan and red color coding follows common field conventions and is recognized as a direct replacement for standard yellow, tan, and red connectors across most residential wiring applications.
This connector is targeted at residential electrical work and is well suited for device pigtailing, panel wiring, junction box connections, and general branch-circuit terminations. It was specifically developed for residential market applications where a single connector needs to cover the range of jobs previously handled by multiple connector sizes. Licensed electricians and residential wiremen will find the winged shell useful for working in tight boxes and congested junction points where a standard smooth-shell connector is harder to torque by hand.
Designed as a replacement for yellow, tan, and red twist-on wire connectors across the majority of residential field applications, consolidating multiple connector sizes into one part.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians in accordance with NEC requirements. De-energize the circuit at the breaker and verify absence of voltage with a meter before making or breaking any connections. Strip conductors to the connector manufacturer's recommended strip length, insert into the spring, and rotate clockwise until the spring seats firmly with no bare copper visible below the shell. Do not over-torque or force conductors that exceed the connector's wire range.
