This cable is designed to carry structured data cabling through vertical runs between floors in commercial and residential buildings while meeting the fire-propagation resistance requirements of a riser-rated installation. It suits environments where the cable must transition from exterior conduit entry points into interior riser pathways, making it a practical choice for a single cable run without mid-point termination or cable swaps.

This cable is suited for structured wiring projects in commercial office buildings, multi-unit residential properties, and light industrial facilities. It supports horizontal and vertical distribution runs where both outdoor exposure and riser-rated performance are required. Network technicians and low-voltage electricians typically specify this cable when routing from exterior entry points, equipment enclosures, or rooftop equipment down through interior building risers to patch panels or network equipment rooms.

Key Features

Category 5e performance supporting standard Ethernet data transmission applications

CMR (Riser) fire rating meets vertical flame propagation requirements for in-building riser runs

Indoor and outdoor dual-rated construction for runs that transition between exterior and interior environments

Sold as a single unit (EA), allowing quantity-specific procurement for project needs

Compatibility

Designed as a CMR-rated Cat 5e replacement or new-install cable suitable for riser pathway applications in standard structured cabling systems that accept Category 5e specifications.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a licensed low-voltage technician or electrician familiar with NEC Article 800 requirements governing communications cables in riser applications. Verify that the riser pathway is free of obstructions and that all cable bend-radius minimums are maintained throughout the run. Do not exceed the cable pull-tension rating during installation, and secure all outdoor segments in conduit or weatherproof channels as required by local code. Terminate only with Cat 5e-rated connectors, patch panels, or keystone jacks to maintain signal integrity.

Technical Specifications

Cable Category: Cat 5e (CAT5 Riser)

Fire Rating: CMR (Communications Multipurpose Cable, Riser)

Installation Environment: Indoor and Outdoor

Unit of Measure: Each (EA)

Quantity Per Unit: 1

Standard Information

Brand: SUPERIOR ESSEX

Manufacturer Part Number: 51-240-E1
