The Square D A21.3 Thermal Unit protects motors and controllers from excessive heating caused by prolonged motor over currents. This unit ensures the safety of branch circuit conductors by reacting to overload situations. It trips in 20 seconds or less during overload conditions, offering reliable protection. The thermal unit has a one-piece construction. Motor current flows through a heater winding. In the event of an overload, heat melts a special solder, allowing a ratchet wheel to release and effectively open the control circuit contacts.
